Sprinkles!!!! They make me sooooo happy! What kid, or adult for that matter, dosen't like sprinkles?? They are so fun and festive. I'd put them on everything if I could. today we're making a cake that looks like a big ole doughnut. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
What you'll need is:
- 1 cup of milk
- 1 cup of butter (room temperature)
- 4 whole eggs
- 2 tablespoons of vanilla
- 3 cups of flour
- 2 cups of sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1 tablespoon of baking powder
For the icing you'll need:
- 1 stick of room temperature butter
- 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
- 1 1/3rd cups of powdered sugar, sifted
- 3 to 4 tablespoons of milk
First preheat your oven to 350°.
Then cream together the butter and sugar, for about 2 minutes.
Add in the eggs, 1 at a time, until all 4 eggs are mixed in.
Sift together the flour, salt and baking powder.
Add the vanilla to the milk. Add half of the flour and half of the milk to the the bowl with the butter, sugar and eggs. Beat for a minute, add the remaining flour and milk, then beat for 2 minutes more.
Butter your bundt pan really well.
Lightly dust flour over the buttered pan. It really helps to keep your cake from sticking to the pan.
Add your batter to the pan. Spread it evenly all throughout the pan, and drop it from about 4 inches above the counter onto the counter, to get all of the air bubbles out.
Bake at 350° for 35 to 45 minutes. The cake will spring back when touched, when it's ready. Or you can insert a clean toothpick into the center and it's ready if it comes out clean.
Flip the cake out onto a cake plate, once it has cooled for about an hour.
While the cake is cooling, make your icing.
Beat 1 stick of softened butter in a mixing bowl.
Add in 1 and 1/3rd cups of powdered sugar, and beat well.
After it's all mixed, add in 3 tablespoons of milk and 2 teaspoons of vanilla and beat for about a minute.
Add in 1 drop of food coloring. You can use any color that yiu like. I'm using tulip red coloring gel.
Beat until the coloring is mixed through.
After the icing is made, spread it over the top of the cake, but not too much on the sides, so it looks like a dipped doughnut.
Top with sprinkles and you're done!
